CLIENT BACKGROUND
One of the world's largest specialty retailers offering clothing, accessories and personal care products for men, women, children and supporting three of the most recognized and respected brands in the apparel industry with more than 3,000 stores and 150,000 employees.
BUSINESS PROBLEM
Rising IT COSTS with Multiple Technologies
With key Point-of-Sale systems heavily vested into BEA WebLogic and Tuxedo technology, the retailer sought a solution that would reduce total cost of ownership and consolidate their infrastructure into a single-vendor solution and eliminate redundant and obsolete products.
SOLUTION
Migrate POS Applications to IBM WebSphere
Prolifics was brought in for their migration, portal and application integration expertise to migrate the corporation’s vital POS applications—-which ranged from store information to merchandise production to payroll processing—-into a Portal infrastructure. The corporation selected IBM WebSphere as their single vendor solution using WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal Server, WebSphere MQ, and Tivoli Monitoring.
Prolifics used a three phase approach by first assessing the applications, developing a timeline and specifying the milestones needed for a successful, customer-tested migration effort.
This winning technical strategy was used to successfully migrate 6 legacy run-the-business-applications and business assets from BEA WebLogic to IBM WebSphere in only 3 months with minimal investment. This replaced and eliminated costly obsolete products while gaining greater visibility into and control over total life-cycle spending for IT systems.
This project was a global effort with teams in two US locations, the UK and Hong Kong. The Prolifics team included a migration specialist, a client liaison, an engagement manager, and application developers.
